Professional Mechanical Engineer (Production level) Programme / Project Infrastructure Delivery

About this role

The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to provide expert mechanical engineering services for the Directorate Programme/ Project Infrastructure Delivery: General within Chief Directorate: General Infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate Mechanical Engineering Degree [B Eng/BSc (Eng)] or relevant qualification
  • Three years post qualification engineering experience required
  • Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Mechanical); A valid code B driving licence.
  • Contract documentation and administration

  • National Building Regulations and all relevant built environment legislation

  • Built environment especially regarding mechanical engineering design and analysis in the construction of office and general buildings and facilities

  • Design of different mechanical systems, including but not limited to, HVAC, wet services and fire engineering
  • Knowledge of legal compliance and formulation of policies in a multi-disciplinary professional environment
  • Problem-solving and analysis

  • Proven computer literacy (MS Office, MS Project, Revit, AutoCAD, engineering applications)

  • Grade A: R 914 517 - Grade C : R 1 376 199 per annum (Salary will be determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescript).
  • Note on remuneration: to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.
  • MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed.
  • Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting.
  • All shortlisted candidates shall undertake two pre-entry assessments.
  • One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.
